Excellent course especially when it is free. Mr. Knight is knowledgeable and a good teacher. He explained the concepts clearly, gave great examples and provided quiz questions that checked your knowledge. His side kick 0lly is adorable. Thoroughly enjoyed the course and it wasn't even too long.

The presentation starts with "your system is not observable if you cannot determine its state based on its outputs," and goes on from there. The videos are cute, but more importantly, they highlight why observability helps where monitoring falls down. I learned something!

I really liked that it focusses just on the core concepts, giving a nice overview over the most important aspects, namely the overall architecture of observability platforms, their goals, and some of the core things to watch out for when building one, for example data silos. I would recommend taking this 30 minute course for anybody working on distributed systems who hasn't been exposed to observability as a concept or wants to get some poignant overview on the field.
